Tile Trends for 2014

As we kick start yet another New Year, thoughts turn towards revamping our homes. Wall and floor tiles have always been a staple when it comes to interior decor, as their style, variety and durability make them a firm favourite in all types of home.

To make our homes as stylish and on-trend as possible, it's a good idea to know what will be happening in the tile fashion stakes in the year ahead. Here at the Art of Living, we always try to be ahead of the trend so that our customers can be too.

Here are our top tips for 2014's tile trends:

Tile Trends

Patterns rule

Patterned tiles continue to be popular in 2014, such as the encaustic tiles from 2013. The vintage look is still the effect you should be striving for in your home, and ceramic tiles which imitate original encaustic tiles are excellent for creating this look.

2014's encaustic wall and floor tiles have gone a little bit boho: a slightly softer look which was popular in Europe between the two wars. Try to recreate this style with ever-so slightly faded ceramic tiles in complementing shades. Create an eclectic feel by going for a mismatch effect.

Wooden tops

An interesting look for 2014 is that of porcelain tiles masquerading as wooden flooring. These floor tiles are an excellent choice when you're looking for the warmth and style of hardwood flooring, but require the durability and easy maintenance of glazed porcelain tiles.

The Edimax Wood_Ker range, stocked at the Ceramic Tile Warehouse, is just this sort of tile: it's a modern porcelain wood floor alternative and its natural grains and knots really do imitate those found in hardwood flooring. What's more, it is suitable for kitchens, bathrooms, hallways and living rooms, so you can use it throughout your home for a seamless finish.

Softly does it

Stone tiles, such as travertine or limestone tiles, will be softened in 2014 with the use of muted colours and installation alongside wood. Think painted kitchen units in soft greys and off-whites; choose stone tiles in these colours to create a calm, welcoming atmosphere.

Alternatively, why not install stone floor tiles alongside the porcelain imitation wood tiles mentioned previously? This will give the regal look of inlaid wooden flooring, but will still be soft and serene.
