Ever since the recent economic downturn affected the housing industry, the phrase 'future-proofing' has grown in popularity as people decided to 'do up' their homes and invest their money that way instead of moving. Although from listening to the experts it sometimes sounds as if you need to make your home as plain and simple as possible in order to ensure it has maximum appeal, there are some stylish ways you can still add personality and wall tiles are a great way of doing just that.
The whole idea of future-proofing is to make something long-lasting so it stands the test of time. This means you shouldn't have to redecorate to make your home to make it 'appealing' to buyers should you decide to sell. Whilst being functional and thinking ahead are not the most exciting ideas, using wall tiles to future-proof your kitchen doesn't mean that you have to stick to plain white.
Mosaic wall tiles and tiles that have textured surfaces will never go out of fashion, so these are great stylish options. The same goes for brick effect wall tiles in neutral colours, such as white, light grey and beige. These tiles are extremely popular at the moment, and as long as you choose the right colour, they will look great for many years to come.
Avoid anything sparkly and very bright. After all, if you're wondering whether the wall tiles you would like in your kitchen are a bit garish, then they probably are!
Along with kitchens, bathrooms are one room that can really sell a house so future-proofing it is a priority. People like to see that a bathroom is tranquil, neutral and a place where they can enjoy a relaxing bath, therefore your wall tiles need to reflect this.
Again, keep them neutral, as it's much easier and cheaper to change your colour scheme by buying new towels and accessories than by changing your wall tiles. Additionally, matt wall tiles work really well in a bathroom. As well as giving the neutral look you're after, they're also easier to keep free from cleaning streaks!
As well as future-proofing a home with stylish wall tiles, another great option is to add floor tiles as well. These work particularly well in kitchens, bathrooms and hallways as these are areas that have high footfall, and the floor tiles will last for many years.
As bathrooms are rooms that benefit from having floor to ceiling tiles, it's a great idea to look for stylish wall tiles that can also be used on the floor to achieve a classic look. A hallway could benefit from wood effect ceramic floor tiles and large format floor tiles work really well in a kitchen.
